All Things Academy Awards 2026

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is on Sunday, March 15th, at 7:00 pm EDT. The Awards features a new category, Best Achievement in Casting. In 2028, the 100th Academy Awards will begin their next new category, Achievement in Stunt Design.

This year’s Academy Awards, like many that have come before it, features nominees whose wins would make them the first of their kind. Here are the nominees who have the potential to break records this year:

  • Sinners and One Battle After Another saw record nominations in January; they both have the potential to win a record number of Academy Awards on Sunday.
  • Cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw (Sinners) is the first woman to be nominated in the Best Cinematography category.
  • Producer Zinzi Coogler (Sinners) could take home the Oscar for Best Picture, making her the first Black female producer to win the award.
  • Her husband, Director Ryan Coogler (Sinners), would be the first Black filmmaker to win the Oscar for Directing.
  • Actor Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent) would be the first Brazilian actor to win an Academy Award; he is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
  • Actress Amy Madigan (Weapons) could win for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, marking the longest gap between first nomination and first win.
  • Actor Michael B. Jordan’s win (Sinners) in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category would be the first time an actor has won for their performance as twins.
  • Actor Delroy Lindo (Sinners) would be the first male actor to win Best Actor in a Leading Role without having won any previous awards for his performance.
  • Actor Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value) could be the first actor from an international film to win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
